Characters
Brian
Fourteen-year-old Brian is tired of living in a tent with his family - but he's not sure being forced to save a girl from the belly of a whale is any more agreeable. Having been flung into a fantasy world by a misguided willow tree Brian finds himself filling the role of the legendary hero Kagonan whom the inhabitants are convinced will save them from their troubles. Battling a sea beast is only the start of his adventures as he and Cecila struggle to discover why they've been transported to this alternate reality.
Cecilia
This heroine is self-satisfied and generally disagreeable but Brian cannot help liking her. Fated to play the victim and dependent, Cecila must come to terms with her own role in this strange journey even as she attempts to maintain an emotional distance from her male companion.
Omar
The red and black dinosaur has a quirky sense of humour and little patience for those who take life too seriously. Why he should bear the hard-headed Cecilia's colours is anyone's guess.
Berenda
This humaniod fox is all about business. Painted in green, blue and yellow she is the reflection of Brian's Kagonan powers but bears little resemblance to him in personality. Overly protective of Cecila and the voice of pragmatism her eye is always on the end goal - unless something unexplainable occurs.
Mole
Coming to the rescue of male bladders, this little critter is an unusual source of wisdom about his world.
Mother Cat and Kitten
After experiencing vicarious birthing contractions Cecilia learns that she has a spiritual connection to a small cat and her orange kitten. Why this connection exists will perhaps only ever be in the realm of speculation.
